Why Choose IPL Treatment for Pigmentation Issues?

Hyperpigmentation, as well as other skin conditions, are one of the most common beauty concerns present in modern-day women and men. Uneven skin tone. freckling, and hyperpigmentation can occur for a number of reasons, including sun exposure, aging, and natural genetic poccesses.

Because of the varying factors, people with pigmentation issues will often want to seek out a cosmetic treatment in order to remove them. While there are a few common procedures available to combat pigmentation issues, IPL treatment is steadily topping the ranks in popularity. This article will provide an overview of this type of skin therapy in order to determine what makes it so popular and effective.

What Is an IPL Treatment for Pigmentation?

IPL stands for “intense pulse light”, which is used in the medical and cosmetic world alike. This technology is used as part of a treatment for various aesthetic reasons, as well as a means of therapy. IPL treatment can also be referred to as IPL therapy or, in some cases, a “photofacial”.

While IPL therapy is used in different contexts, such as part of a hair removal session or for treating dry eyes, it is mainly associated with treating skin conditions such as hyperpigmentation, acne, sunspots and other complexion concerns. IPL treatment can also be used to remove freckles or birthmarks for those who wish to do so.

How Does IPL Therapy Work?

When receiving IPL treatment for pigmentation improvement, the first thing that will happen is the trained IPL technician will clean the area that will be affected. When clean, they cover it with a cool gel that will protect your skin. After this, the “intense pulse light” is applied to your skin with the use of a handheld tool hooked up to a machine.

IPL skincare specialists use what might be referred to colloquially as an IPL device, which acts as a high-powered flashgun that emits pulses of light. In general, this is considered a safe practice. The gel mentioned previously helps protect and cool the top part of your skin from the intense light rays.

The IPL device is designed to filter out any otherwise harmful characteristics, such as ultraviolet light, leaving a product that targets and eliminates only specific pigments without causing damage to the skin.

What Are the Main Benefits of IPL Treatment?

1: IPL is a Targeted & Varied Treatment

The unique thing about IPL therapy is that it can be used to treat a wide range of issues, from several skin conditions to hair removal to treating dry eyes. Because an IPL device can filter the pulses of light it releases, it can be put on different settings best suited for the condition it’s treating. This is great for providing a specifically targeted experience.

While some skin treatment alternatives use the exact same methods for removing freckles, birthmarks, sun spots, and more, IPL can provide a more efficient and particular experience. This also allows you to have the safest, most narrowed down procedure possible, raising your chances of delivering the desired outcome.

2: High Rates of Effectiveness

IPL treatment counts with a very high reported rate of effectiveness compared to other skin remedies, which is part of the reason why it’s so popular.

When treated for reducing skin redness, it’s been reported to have gotten rid of up to 75% of red patches after just a few treatments. This includes patients with rosacea, who are unable to opt for different treatments such as certain chemical peels or laser skin therapy. For sunspots and other ultraviolet related damage, reports are similar, with up to 70% fewer spots!

3: Quick Procedure

Compared to other more invasive skin treatments, IPL is considered a relatively quick procedure with a fast recovery timeline. Depending on the size and body placement of the area that’s going to be affected, IPL treatment sessions usually take around 20 to 25 minutes on average.

As for how many sessions you need, this also depends on your personal situation. However, one can expect to have two to five sessions before finishing their treatment with optimal results. For some patients, even the very first session can produce visible, desirable differences. It very much depends on what skin issue you’re treating: for example, fine lines may fade faster than sun spots or acne scars.

Are There Side Effects of IPL Treatment?

Despite the many benefits of IPL treatment, for pigmentation issues or beyond, there are a few mild side effects potentially involved. The downsides of this technology can include some skin reactions. These can include, but are not limited to:

  • Red skin or mild rashes
  • Skin may peel or swell
  • Itchiness
  • Small bruises

While these side effects have been reported and can be quite common, there is often preventable reasoning to their appearance. For example, IPL treatment isn’t recommended if you’re pregnant, have skin cancer, have sensitive skin, are very dark-skinned or are currently undergoing tanning treatments.

You can help avoid unwanted outcomes from IPL treatment by carefully researching the ideal candidates for this type of therapy. Make sure your skin type is qualified. It’s also essential to find a qualified, trained professional to deliver your IPL treatment, and not go with a risky amateur job to get a cheaper fix. Lastly, be sure to follow all the instructions for caring for your skin before and after the treatment is done.

Laser Treatments vs. IPL

Many people believe that laser treatment and IPL treatment are pretty much interchangeable terms. However, while these two treatment options are quite similar, they’re not the same. The type of light that laser treatment uses on your skin is a single wavelength that creates a direct beam. IPL therapy, on the other hand, produces light with various degrees of wavelengths. This allows IPL treatment to have several benefits compared to laser therapy, including but not limited to:

  • Less painful procedure
  • Faster and able to cover a larger skin area at a time
  • More affordable than laser
  • Less risks and generally safer
  • Quick recovery with results being more long term

In short, IPL therapy and laser treatment can often be used to perform the same task, but they have some key differences in the way the light penetrates the skin and affects the procedure. If you’re looking for the best targeted outcome for your money, IPL treatment is the way to go!

Radio Frequency Skin Tightening Treatment to Fight Aging

The Radio Frequency (RF) skin tightening treatment is a type of nonsurgical anti-aging treatment used in many aesthetic centers and medical spas. It helps naturally tighten skin, decrease fine lines and wrinkles, and lift sagging, loose skin that comes with aging. Radio frequency skin tightening treatments are safe for most skin types, as it uses heat to target skin tissue. With RF skin tightening and resurfacing, there is no use of lasers, incisions, or needles.

It’s normal to notice signs of aging as we get older. These signs can include sagging skin, creases and wrinkles that result from prolonged exposure to sun damage, environmental toxins, or simply genetics. Two key factors that contribute to youthful, plump skin are collagen and elastin. Both of these diminish over time, causing the loss of elasticity and overall “glow” we all value so much in our face and neck.

How Does RF Skin Tightening Help Fight Aging?

RF skin tightening devices are used to penetrate heat waves into the skin. This use of heat promotes new collagen production and overall greater elasticity under the surface of the skin. When the skin renews its collagen, it maintains a more vibrant appearance, and can quickly tighten the skin being treated by RF waves.

Sometimes, when you hear the term skin tightening you instantly thing of a surgical skin tightening procedure or more invasive treatments that include laser, needle, or abrasive techniques. However, when radiofrequency is used, a harmless electrical current from a handheld device sends heat into the targeted nerves under the skin. The heat then stimulates these nerves, encouraging collagen, healing, and amazing results.

A similar radiofrequency ablation (RFA) therapy is even used in some pain treatments, including arthritis and chronic neck pain.

Benefits of Radiofrequency Skin Treatments

It’s important to note that skin tightening with surgical procedures will obviously create more drastic and long-term results. Although surgeries such as face lifts and tummy tucks can appear as a more ideal option for permanent tightening, the truth is not everyone is able to undergo cosmetic surgery. Additionally, not everyone wants to experience the side effects or the recovery time that post-operation demands.

Thankfully, RF skin tightening is an affordable, accessible option for many! Not only is this method of tissues tightening safe, but it’s also relatively harm-free, with little to no downtime. You could (if you wanted to) go in to get an RF treatment on your face or neck and be ready to return to work the very next morning.

Beneficial results include:

  • Instant stimulation of collagen fibers under the skin
  • Continued collagen production months after treatment
  • Improves volume and skin definition
  • Long-lasting tightening and lifting effect to any area of the skin
  • Safe for all skin types
  • Lifts cheek and jaw wrinkles
  • Smoothes smile lines and frown lines
  • Able to do repeated treatments over time for most desired effect
  • Minimally invasive, relatively convenient treatment option

Is RF Skin Tightening Worth It for Me?

Radiofrequency skin tightening procedures are quite popular and available at most med spas. Any person 18 or older can get skin tightening as it’s a suitable treatment for individuals looking to gain radiant skin once again or reverse initial signs of dullness that come with aging.

Since the heat from RF treatments reaches through layers of skin, there’s no harsh damage done that requires recovery time. There’s very little– usually zero– downtime with RF skin tightening treatment, other than some mild soreness from the heat. It’s said that the pain is that of a sunburn.

Most RF resurfacing treatments cost roughly $600 to $1,000, depending on which area of the body you receive treatment.

Typically, a standard RF session takes 20 minutes to one hour. This process is notably painless. The only side effects last about 24 hours where the skin may display redness or mild sensitivity.

Where Can You Get RF Treatment On the Body?

Radiofrequency resurfacing treatment is most commonly done on the face, neck, and chest, but can also be helpful to other areas of the body. It’s been used to shrink or smooth large stretch marks, so getting RF skin tightening treatment on your legs, butt, or lower abdominal area. Patients seeking this type of treatment for the body have also raved about results for decreasing the appearance of cellulite on the arms, legs, and thighs.

Is There Anyone Who Shouldn’t Get Radio Frequency Skin Tightening Treatments?

People with excess heat in the skin or skin conditions such as rosacea should take caution before any resurfacing treatment. Because rosacea causes red, irritated skin, it’s advised that you seek specialized treatments that will help your specific skin conditions– especially if you are experiencing any enlarged capillaries. Talk to your medical spa technician about any concerns and they will be happy to help give you solutions.

What is Skin Resurfacing and Who Can It Help?

What is Skin Resurfacing?

Skin resurfacing is a method of using non-surgical treatments to improve skin appearance and complexion. This is done by removing or micro-damaging the outer layers of skin in order to encourage new cell growth and collagen production. Resurfacing benefits include clearer and more even skin tone, diminished acne scars, reversed effects of sun damage, and little to no side effects or downtime.

How Does Resurfacing Work?

Because there are various types of skin resurfacing options, the exact ways in which it works on your skin will look differently depending on the treatment. However, the overall concept is the same. The goal is to improve skin health, maintain a youthful appearance, and even out skin coloration.

Everyone’s skin naturally begins to age over time, no matter how great your skin care routine is! The outermost layers of our skin are first to show signs of damage, aging, sun exposure, stress, and other environmental causes. By working with the different types of resurfacing options, we’re essentially helping to reverse these signs of damage by removing dead skin then replenishing it with treatments like laser, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion.

Who is Skin Resurfacing For?

Depending on your personal skin concerns and medical history, your plastic surgeon or board-certified skin specialist will be able to target a treatment that is best suited for you. Typically, skin resurfacing is for anyone over the age of 18 who is seeking improved skin on the face, neck, chest, or anywhere else on the body.

Many people who seek resurfacing treatments range from adult women and men in their aging years looking to appear more youthful. Seniors might opt for these treatments, too, to decrease sagging wrinkles. Younger adults frequently look into resurfacing to help with things like acne scars, early signs of aging, discoloration, freckling, and other skin conditions.

Types of Skin Resurfacing Treatments

As a cosmetic procedure, skin resurfacing is widely popular in all forms. Laser resurfacing is often the most well-known.

Laser treatment targets spots on the skin with precision. It also removes outermost skin layers so the newer skin cells beneath the surface can activate the body’s healing process. This healing and new skin formation is what gives that fresh, tighter, and more youthful glow.

There are two types of laser resurfacing: ablative or nonablative.

Ablative laser resurfacing

This type of treatment is where the actual “micro wounding” is performed, as mentioned above. Ablative means it removes the surface of the skin. The removal of the skin tissue activates the need to repair and restore skin from the inside out. Usually, the types of lasers used for ablative treatment are the erbium laser or a CO2 laser.

Nonablative laser treatment

Alternatively to an ablative laser where wounding happens, nonablative laser treatment does not cause wounding on the skin’s surface. Instead, beams of light stimulate collagen production in the deeper skin tissue of the treatment areas. This results in tighter, plumper, and more subtle effects. Even though nonablative is a great noninvasive option for healthy skin, it’s not as effective or long-lasting as ablative laser resurfacing. An example of nonablative laser treatment is the popular Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment.

{{ brizy_dc_image_alt uid='wp-12634d60a4c6ef4b911e9dac79cb60c3' }}

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

IPL, as mentioned, is noninvasive and stimulates the skin with light. It’s helpful for repairing visible blood vessels (such as under the eyes or neck), fading sun spots, and taking care of pigmentation issues. Many people with acne or scars from past acne challenges use IPL as a way to diminish scarring, large pores, and discoloration.

Radio Frequency (RF)

Another type of resurfacing can now be done with Radio Frequency technology. This unique process sends RF waves under the skin’s surface. It cleans the skin of any oil, dirt, and excess skin. Then it targets deep collagen production, giving an instant glow and overal smoothed skin tone.

These treatments can be used on any area of the body, which is great if you are seeking multiple treatments for problem areas. The most frequently requested skin resurfacing treatments, by far, are done on the face, neck, and décolletage (chest).

At Wake Up Beautiful Spa we use the Venus Viva for Venus Versa for nonlaser resurfacing treatments. Both of these machines work wonders for our clients. They offer IPL, RF, and MP2 technology, which means it can be customized to treat a long list of skin concerns– even cellulite.

What we at Wake Up Beautiful Spa love about the Venus machines for resurfacing is that unlike intense lasers, it gives you the option to perform skin procedures that are safe and effective for all skin times. Lasers are not often safe for darker skin tones. But thankfully, growing technology allows aestheticians to use the benefits of FR and IPL to the advantage of any patient.

Venus Viva Skin Resurfacing

What is Skin Resurfacing?

Typically, skin resurfacing facial treatments are a type of photorejuvenation that uses lasers or light to help treat skin conditions. Lasers have been known to minimize fine lines, acne scars, and other spots on the skin. However, there are other types of skin resurfacing that don’t involve lasers and work exceptionally well. The Venus Viva™ skin resurfacing treatment is an alternative type of skin resurfacing that helps repair similar skin damages and signs of pigmentation.

What is Venus Viva?

The Venus Viva™ is a special machine with a handheld tool with tiny pins in it. These small pins are combined with RF heat (NanoFractional Radio Frequency) that work together to penetrate into the skin’s surface. Instead of using lasers, this process delivers heat which creates tiny wounds through the desired treatment area. The wounds are so small that it’s often hardly noticeable yet results in deeply effective treatment.

{{ brizy_dc_image_alt uid='wp-727ed2767d7d612cfd45c02d2a582a59' }}

The tiny micro wounds are naturally healed by the body while increasing collagen production. This is why it’s so useful for wrinkles, acne scars, enlarged pores, uneven pigmentation, and deep scars. Elastin fibers inside connective skin tissue are also stimulated which helps obtain more youthful results starting in 24 hours.

The Venus Viva™ treatments are safe, patented, and FDA-approved. The Venus Viva™ skin resurfacing is also the first age rejuvenating facial that can be manually customized for ablation settings which give efficient treatment.

Results include:

  • noticeably smoother skin
  • decreased lines and wrinkles
  • skin tightening effect
  • improved results over time
  • plump, glowing skin
  • evened skin tone and pigmentation
  • increased collagen

Benefits of Venus Viva™ Skin Resurfacing

This type of treatment is much less painful and uncomfortable than laser treatments. Originally, skin resurfacing required the use of traditional CO2 lasers pulsed into the skin to provide desired effects. The main problem with this is that it can cause discomfort to some patients, and it’s only available on lighter (white) skin tones.

Little to No Downtime

Most Venus Viva™ treatments require you to maintain bare skin for 24 hours (meaning no makeup, harsh skin care products, etc.) to ensure the healing process begins promptly. Other than that, there is no downtime and you can return to daily activities as normal.

Effective for All Skin Types and Colors

Venus Viva™ skin resurfacing is an excellent improvement compared to laser resurfacing. It’s safe and effective for all skin types, ethnicities, and darker skin tones; whereas laser is only available for lighter skin tones.

Quick, Safe Treatment Option

Treatment sessions usually last up to 30 minutes. Most patients report a pain-free process and leave feeling cleansed, rejuvenated, and notice a plumper complexion.

Individualized Treatment Plans

With SmartScan technology, each treatment is aimed to best benefit the individual. Whether you have deep acne scars from the former use of harsh medications like Accutane, or simply want to tighten some trouble aging areas with stretch marks, the Venus Viva™ can be geared specifically to your skin needs.

{{ brizy_dc_image_alt uid='wp-16cf4cf8d02a90e21fe91b91efc4d143' }}

What Happens During a Treatment?

The first part of a Venus Viva™ skin resurfacing treatment is a thorough skin assessment. Your provider will talk to you about your main skin concerns and needs in order to understand your desired result of this treatment. From there, your treatment provider will explain your individual plan and the likely outcome.

Because this skin resurfacing treatment involves small pins that penetrate the skin, you’ll first be numbed with a topical anesthetic so you remain comfortable during the entire process. Then they use the handheld tool to apply the treatment. You may feel some warmth, mild scratchy sensation, or pressure.

At first, your skin may have some mild swelling visible on the surface or some redness. This is the body’s natural reaction to the process of healing the micro-damage. It means your skin is effectively responding to the treatment. Within the next few days, most of the redness will settle. You can go about your normal day immediately. Just be sure to avoid all skin products on the treated area for the first 24 hours.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Other than the initial swelling and redness, the side effects are so small the treatment often won’t come with any adverse reactions. Some people who might be extra sensitive may experience a little longer duration of redness or tenderness, but overall the Venus Viva™ process is safe for all skin types.
